Data Governance

Pre-Seed & Seed Funding for Data Governance Startups

We back founders who help large companies know what data they have, who can use it, and whether it is ready for AI.

Beta Boom Perspectives

Where we're looking in data governance

Many AI projects slow down when nobody can say where the data came from or who may use it. These are the areas we're watching most closely.

01
Data lineage and quality

Knowing where the data came from

Before a team trusts an answer from an AI system, someone asks where the data came from and who changed it along the way. Lineage and quality tools that work across warehouses, applications, and spreadsheets can answer that without a months-long cataloging project. We want to meet founders who have made this work inside a messy environment.
02
Data access and policy

Deciding who and what can use which data

AI tools now ask for access that people never needed, so permissions that worked for a handful of analysts stop working at scale. We're interested in founders who turn policy into controls that apply across systems, with approvals and a record of who used what.
03
Compliance and audit

Showing the data was handled correctly

Privacy, retention, and residency rules vary by region and industry, and audits ask for evidence on short notice. We like products that make that evidence a byproduct of normal work. Parakeet Risk takes this approach for manufacturers, with a general ledger that unifies governance, risk, and compliance.
04
Data in complex environments

Data trouble that is specific to an industry

Every industry has its own data trouble: records spread across several systems, definitions that differ by team, files nobody owns. If you're working on one of those, tell us what you're seeing.

An Open and Transparent Process

We've been founders, and we remember how it feels to wait on an investor. So we built our process around what we wished we'd gotten. Here's what to expect.

01

No Warm Intro Needed

We welcome direct applications. Nobody gets a head start from a referral, so you can skip the hunt for an intro.

02

A Response Within a Week

You'll hear back within a week, either a pass or an invitation to talk. Either way, you'll know where you stand.

03

Conversation First

Skip the rehearsed pitch. We'd rather talk through what you're building, where you want to take it, and learn about what got you where you are.

04

We Come Prepared

We take every meeting seriously. We’ll never show up distracted or unprepared. Your time is valuable, and we treat it that way.

05

Mutual Fit Matters

Taking on an investor is a long-term relationship. Ask us hard questions and take the time you need to decide if we're the right partner.

06

Diligence in 4 to 6 Weeks

Our diligence process typically takes about 4 weeks. If we decide to pass along the way, we'll tell you quickly so you can get back to building and raising.
